Academics - Our academic program is extraordinary. Believing that children "unfold" following developmental law, we lay a strong foundation for a rigorous academic curriculum in the early years. In our view, it is essential that we keep alive the natural love of learning while developing "habits of learning." In our preschool and lower grades, one of the most important jobs of the teacher is to develop a love of literature. All that they read and all that is read to the children is carefully selected to nuture their natural enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination. It is so much easier to teach a child to read when they love literature!
As the length of time spent in school increases, learning remains active and engaging. Thus, do not be surprised if you see a 150' length of string the second graders draped in our hallway to show how long a blue whale can be.
Engagement coupled with order and structure insures that our lower school children blossom as students!
In the middle school - grades 5-8 - the learning arc intensifies. Grades are introduced and solid performance in every academic area is expected. To help students continue to achieve, we provide small class instruction and as much extra help as necessary. Please see the Kevin P. O'Sullivan Middle School navigation tab for the list of subjects taught in middle school by grade level.
Over the years we have been delighted to find that Holy Child Academy students are accepted into their first choice when applying to high school (see Secondary School Placements). That is not by accident! Our students are well prepared, focused, conscientious, and know how to achieve. They learn these things here.
