Athletics - When we speak of athletics at Holy Child, we mean to include all physical activity: physical education, games at recess, and movement classes of which there are many. We might just as well substitute "Action" for "Athletics."
All of the students have physical activity periods every day. In the lower grades and preschool, there are scheduled physical education and movement classes (dance, yoga, games) and in the middle school, interscholastic sports from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. All students have a healthy recess period every day as well.
In the preschool and lower school, there are dedicated physical education and dance movement instructors with deep experience who know how to engage younger children. In the middle school, the director of physical education/athletics - fondly known as Mr. K - oversees a bevy of coaches who teach soccer, lacrosse, and basketball in a three season sports year. The middle schoolers, in addition to their 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. period, also take physical education classes each week, following a rigorous curriculum in fitness and other sports (tennis, gymnastics, etc.).
Our facilities include two full sized gyms, tennis courts, and acres of playing fields. Even on the stormiest days, all of the children can have recess inside because of our ample space.
