Lower School

It is our goal to lay the foundation for success throughout a child’s early school years. Kindness, understanding and acceptance are the rules for social relationships in the Lower School, where learning to be a good friend is as important as learning the ABC’s. Here at HCA, Lower School students learn to love learning, manage the demands of formal schooling, employ the rules of language and numbers, and make lifelong friends.

  • Small class sizes allow for individual attention that honors the learning style of each child. Lessons in reading, writing, and math are enhanced through interdisciplinary connections to science, social studies, technology and problem solving.

  • Our whole child approach to education joyfully engages our young students in art, music, physical education, and dance classes each week. Students learn both French and Spanish. Grades 3 and 4 participate in our fall and spring season intramural program.

  • The spirituality of our children is nurtured through prayer, service, and participation in a faith community. Second grade students prepare for and receive their First Reconciliation and First Communion on campus.

  • We boast new state-of-the-art interactive touch boards in classrooms and a beautiful Mac Lab in the library. Keyboarding, individual and collaborative internet research projects, PowerPoint presentations, iMovies, and Google Classroom are introduced in age appropriate grades.
