A Letter from the HCA Board of Trustees

Dear Holy Child Community,

We pray this letter finds every member of the Holy Child Academy (HCA) community safe, well and preparing with us for a successful 2020-21 school year. The Board of Trustees wants to take this opportunity to reflect on our School’s many accomplishments, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, and to thank our families and students for their continuing support during these unprecedented times.

Thanks to the outstanding leadership of our Head of School, Art Viscusi, the skill and hard work of our administrative team and the creativity and flexibility of our faculty members, we’re very proud that “WE NEVER MISSED A DAY OF SCHOOL” during the pandemic. The ability of our HCA team to quickly plan and adapt, facilitated a seamless transition to a successful distance learning curriculum that was quickly embraced by the students.  While most of the schools on Long Island were closed, our new virtual learning environment continued, uninterrupted, until the end of the academic year in June.

Thanks to careful planning and effective communications with New York State, we’re one of the very few schools currently providing a safe and exciting summer camp for Long Island children, which is off to an excellent start and will continue through August.  Despite the constantly changing guidelines and regulations, Art, Christine Flanagan, and the Camp leadership never gave up and now have a summer program that is highly regarded for safety by the State Summer Camp Inspector and has a better than expected, and growing, enrollment.

Thanks to effective financial management and administrative restructuring, led by Art, with oversight from the Board, hard choices were made to implement a sustainable budget that is designed to weather future uncertainty and to preserve the outstanding quality of our academic program.  While a number of Catholic schools and private schools on Long Island have closed for good, we’re preparing for the new academic year with excitement and optimism.

Art and members of the administrative team held two Town Hall meetings this past week that introduced our reopening plans. Click here to see the plan. We are confident in our plan and are looking forward to opening fully, five days a week, in September.

Thanks to the Strategic Plan investments in technology, network infrastructure and facilities over the past two years, and the careful planning and communication with our families, we’re prepared to open our school in the fall with a safe, flexible academic program that “NURTURES THE SPIRIT AND CHALLENGES THE MIND” and will “NEVER MISS A DAY OF SCHOOL” during the 2020-21 academic year. Our goals, plans and beautiful facilities, as described and depicted on our redesigned HCA website, have not gone unnoticed by Long Islanders as many families have been visiting our School this summer looking for a high quality, safe school for their children.

We can all be proud that our School principles and goals have been widely embraced and have served to make the HCA community stronger during these difficult and uncertain times:

We work for Christian principles of justice, peace and compassion in every facet of life.

We live, learn and worship as a dynamic Christian community.

We foster a faith commitment that engenders a joyous personal relationship with God in addressing the challenges of the world.

Thank you again to the HCA community for your perseverance and support.

God Bless,

The Holy Child Academy Board of Trustees
