Athletics
Some of life’s most important lessons are learned on the playing field: how to work hard, be resilient, and rebound from defeat. Athletics isn’t an option at Holy Child. Almost every child in the third and fourth grade participates in the after-school intramural sports program, and every child in fifth through eighth grade plays soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, and lacrosse in the spring. All students have physical education every day. Our coaches excel at teaching the appropriate skills, and our competitive sports teams play a regular schedule every season against other schools. At the Athletic Awards Dinner in the spring, students on every team are honored not just for athletic prowess but for improvement and attitude.
In addition to fostering physical fitness through our sports program, our teachers and coaches teach proper nutrition and the body-mind connection. The interscholastic sports schedules, information about necessary equipment, and directions to games are posted on the website seasonally.
Our school mascot is the tiger, selected in a school-wide contest in 2009. In voting to become "Tigers," one or our students stated that it was the perfect name for us. "Our ‘stripes’ will tell the whole world we are strong, tough adversaries on the fields of play."
Blue & White Teams
All students in grades K-8 are placed on the blue or the white team and participate in year-long interclass and interschool contests. The highlights of this competition are Field Day and Spirit Night, annual events that are long-standing traditions.
